About the Indian Blackbuck
The Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra) is a medium-sized antelope belonging to the family Bovidae. It is the only living species in the genus Antilope. The species is native to the Indian subcontinent and remains an important part of India’s grassland and open-country wildlife.
Male Blackbucks are particularly striking because their coloration changes as they mature. Adult males can develop a dark brown to almost black coat on the upper parts of the body, contrasting strongly with their white underparts.
The species is also known for the male’s distinctive long, twisted spiral horns, which are among its most recognizable features.
